Boss Hogg Outlawz

Serve & Collect III

BY Aaron MatthewsPublished Aug 30, 2011

Slim Thug certainly can't be accused of selfishness. Serve & Collect III is his fourth album with click Boss Hogg Outlawz. Slim Thug appears on all but two tracks, usually rhyming alongside members Mug, Le$, Dre Day and J-Dawg. With the departure of standout member Killa Kyleon, the BHO don't have much of a distinctive voice ― combined with the uniform Houston rap sound, songs quickly start to blend together. Southern rap junkies can still find a few highlights. "Shut Yo Hood Down" melds a Skynyrd-worthy guitar loop with synths and a chopped'n'screwed UGK sample for perfect riding music. "Murder" is all creeping hi-hats and horror movie synths, as BHO chant death threats from their impeccably painted cars. Newcomer Hoodstar Chantz steals the show on posse cut "Roofless," with funny punch lines and an impressive double-time show. Devotees of Slim Thug and the Houston sound will be entertained by Serve & Collect III, virtually everyone else will be bored.
