Born Ruffians, No Age, High Places, Up For Best Album Art

Born Ruffians, No Age, High Places, Up For Best Album Art
With 2008 quickly coming to an end, Best Art Vinyl has announced the shortlist in its annual competition to name the year’s best album art, which in 2008 includes covers by Born Ruffians, Ladyhawk, No Age, High Places, Flying Lotus and several others.

Each year the album-art appreciation society Art Vinyl puts on the event, which celebrates the "visual magic of the record sleeve," by choosing the 50 sleeve designs it deems some of the year’s best. The UK-based group then asks music/art lovers to weigh in and cast their votes on which cover they believe tops all others.

Voting is already underway for this year’s competition and closes on December 6. The winner will then be announced on January 5. In past years, artists such as Thom Yorke and the Cribs have taken home the honour.

Along with those listed above, other nominees for Best Art Vinyl 2008 include covers by artists such as Cat Power, Foals, Jay Reatard, Fuck Buttons, the Notwist (the European cover, not the North American one), Hercules and Love Affair, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Gas.
