Will Oldham is about as prolific a musician as you can get these days. For the past couple of decades, the folk musician has been dropping an average of one full-length per year, starting with his Palace outfit up to his solo work under his nom de plume Bonnie "Prince" Billy. Well, the artist is back at it again with a new charity single.
As Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Oldham will be releasing another slab of wax with the new track "There Is No God" featured on the A-side. The rustic country rock number, not to mention its seemingly polar-opposite-minded flip "God Is Love," features guest musicians Emmett Kelly, Ben Hall, Pete Cummings, Peter Townsend, Billy Contreras, Cassie Berman and Rachel Korine. You can check out the clip for "There Is No God," which finds the prince playing checkers and eating ice cream out on the swamp, below.
All proceeds for the single, which will be released by Drag City on June 21, will go to Save Our Gulf and the Turtle Hospital, two charities with goals to maintain and preserve waterways and the wildlife that inhabit them.
If that weren't enough Oldham for you, the musician also just released a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Dominic Cipolla called The Mindeater. On it, the pair cover the Everly Brothers' "I Wonder If I Care as Much," as well as offer up three originals: "The Mindeater," "Roki for Now" and "Suddenly the Darkness." The record was released as a limited-edition twelve-inch on Sophomore Lounge, but there are plans to release the set on CD and digital download on Partisan Records later this summer.
The always-busy Oldham is also playing some shows this summer, including a stop at the Calgary Folk Festival on July 22. Check out the dates below.
