After initially postponing its 2020 event to September, Tennessee music festival Bonnaroo has officially cancelled this year's edition due to COVID-19.
Organizers announced the move today, nearly two weeks after the original event was scheduled to take place.
"Our annual time together on the Farm is nothing short of magical, but out of an abundance of caution and for the health and safety of all Bonnaroovians, artists, staff, partners and our community, this is a necessary reality," festival organizers said in a statement.
The September postponement dates will now be host to some sort of virtual celebration in lieu of a physical event. Organizers promise "a very special virtual Bonnaroo weekend including some of our favorite moments from past and present, along with some special surprises." The mysterious virtual event will take place from September 24 to 27.
Tool, Lizzo, Tame Impala, Miley Cyrus, Flume, Lana Del Rey, Vampire Weekend, the 1975, DaBaby and more would have performed at this year's edition.
In their announcement, organizers also announced dates for next year's festivities. As it stands, Bonnaroo is scheduled to return the weekend of June 17 to 20 in 2021.
