Bon Iver's Justin Vernon Unveils Album with the Shouting Matches

Last year, Bon Iver main man Justin Vernon dropped hints about a bevy of new projects, including a forthcoming album from his side-project the Shouting Matches. That LP is called Grownass Man, and it will be out on April 16 via Middle West.

The Shouting Matches features Megafaun's Phil Cook and Peter Wolf Crier's Brian Moen. Vernon previously described the project as "sort of a blues-gospel band."

According to a listing on Amazon, Grownass Man is "a record with Midwestern knuckles and Southern calluses."

The entire thing is available to stream on NPR, and our initial impression that it's a rollicking roots rock album that's decidedly more buoyant than his work as Bon Iver and carries stronger country and blues influences.

Vernon previously discussed other in-the-works projects, including a new Volcano Choir album and an American songbook featuring well-known female singers.

Grownass Man:

3. Heaven Knows
4. Mother When?
5. Seven Sisters
