Published Jun 10, 2011When he's not melting hearts with his beloved Bon Iver, Justin Vernon has become quite the collaborator of late. Following his high-profile appearances on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and his work with GAYNGS, the artist is now fielding calls from rock'n'roll legend Neil Young.
Speaking with the Guardian, Vernon explained that he's been on a constant work schedule thanks to all the collaboration offers he's getting.
"I think the easiest way to explain it is that before, when I had other jobs or whatever, all I ever wanted to do was play music all of the time," he said. "So now whenever anything comes along -- a Peter Gabriel cover, or recording Hadestown with Anaïs, it's like, 'yes! Of course!'"
As the offers to collaborate keep getting more interesting, Vernon is finding it extra difficult to say no. "And then you get tired, and you think, 'Well, I'd better say no to everything from now on'. But then the Kanye [West] thing happens. Or... Neil Young called two days ago, and I'm almost like, 'Oh, fuck', because whatever he's going to say I'm going to want to deal with, you know?"
While that's all he really revealed about the possible Neil Young collaboration, this news does follow Richie Furay's notion that Buffalo Springfield might be working on some "collaborations" this fall.
Bon Iver's self-titled album will be available on June 21 via Jagjaguwar.
