Bon Iver, My Morning Jacket, Lamchop and Conor Oberst Team Up for John Prine Tribute

BY Josiah HughesPublished Apr 9, 2010

Roy Orbison, Graham Nash, David Bowie and Shel Silverstein are just a handful of music legends who have been treated to their own tribute albums as of late. And the idea doesn't seem to be getting old, as the latest to enter the fold is accomplished 63-year-old folk rocker John Prine, who will be honoured on a new compilation.

Titled Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, the cover album sees Prine's work reinterpreted by artists who clearly drew some influence from the songwriter in their own work. We're talking about Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, Conor Oberst, My Morning Jacket, Lambchop, the Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Drive-By Truckers, Deer Tick and others.

Oh Boy Records will release the compilation on June 22. Justin Vernon's cover of "Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)" was previously featured on NPR's Spring Music Preview, and can be heard here.
