Bob Wiseman Emerges with New Solo Album, Gets Mary Margaret O'Hara, Basia Bulat, Serena Ryder to Guest

As an eccentric singer-songwriter, former Blue Rodeo member and filmmaker, Bob Wiseman has his name attached to myriad projects. The list will get longer later this month, too, when Wiseman returns with a new solo album.

Called Giulietta Masina at the Oscars Crying, the record sees Wiseman teaming up with guests like Mary Margaret O'Hara, Basia Bulat, Serena Ryder and jazz artist Mark Hundevad.

As a press release observes, the album is packed with references:

Giulietta Masina at the Oscars Crying is, at its bare essence, a document of death and deceit. The songs bring forward stories and musings about the late Toronto actress Tracy Wright, Haiti's first democratically elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Phillip Guberman, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Scottsboro Boys, Bo Diddley and, of course (the reference in the album title), the great filmmaker Federico Fellini.

The tracklisting alone demonstrates that, with tracks pointing to Parliament, Neil Young, Burning Man, the Junos and Yahoo.ca, among others.

Giulietta Masina at the Oscars Crying will be available on January 24 via Blocks Recording Club/God Finds Cats. The song "Neil Young at the Junos" can be streamed below.
