Proceeds from his single "American Crisis" will benefit OutFront Minnesota and Black Visions Collective

Bob Mould has announced plans for a new album titled Blue Hearts. Merge Records will release the effort on September 25.

Today, the artist has shared a new single from the album titled "American Crisis," the proceeds of which, from now until June 7, will benefit OutFront Minnesota and Black Visions Collective in the wake of ongoing protests against police brutality.

Of the new single, Mould wrote in a statement:

"American Crisis" is a tale of two times. Past Time and Present Time. The parallels between 1984 and 2020 are a bit scary for me: telegenic, charismatic leaders, praised and propped up by extreme Evangelicals, either ignoring an epidemic (HIV/AIDS) or being outright deceitful about a pandemic (COVID-19).

The album, which Mould said will feature a batch of other new protest songs, follows the release of 2019's Sunshine Rock and poses as "the raging-but-catchy yin" to its "yang."
