Bob Mould

Circle of Friends

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Nov 23, 2007

For anyone who missed Mould’s recent all-star outing (recent, in this case, referring to two years ago) would be well advised to pick up Circle of Friends, as would anyone fortunate enough to have taken in the veteran musician’s eclectic performance live. With a band comprised of Fugazi’s Brendan Canty, Richard Morel and Rockets Over Sweden’s Jason Narducy, this particular release draws on the band’s show at DC’s famed 9:30 Club. Touted as "career spanning,” the breadth of material here is well deserving of the title. Sugar, Hüsker Dü and Mould’s own solo career are all well-represented, with favourites like "I Apologize” and " Makes No Sense At All” sounding as energetic and relevant as brand new tracks from Mould’s recent outing, Body of Song.
