Never one shy of archival material, Bob Dylan has another new package headed our way. The set is called 1970, and it features a bunch of tracks with late Beatles legend George Harrison.
The three-disc comp is due out on February 26 via Columbia/Legacy, and it features 74 previously unreleased tracks, demos and outtakes. Among those, there's nine tracks Dylan recorded with Harrison.
As you could tell from that title, the set focus on Dylan's '70s period and the sessions that gave birth to albums like Self Portrait and New Morning.
The Harrison tracks were recorded on May 1, 1970, though the recordings were never properly released. The pair recorded Dylan songs such as "One Too Many Mornings," "Gates of Eden" and "Mama, You Been On My Mind," as well as covers of Everly Brothers' "All I Have to Do Is Dream" and Carl Perkins' "Matchbox."
As a press release explains, "The recordings on Bob Dylan – 1970 were first released in a limited edition on December 4 as part of the Bob Dylan – 50th Anniversary Collection copyright extension series (which began in 2012). The buzz surrounding the 1970 performances, notably Dylan's studio sit-down with George Harrison on May 1, created a demand for a broader release of these historic tracks."
