Never one to shy away from money-devouring box sets, Bob Dylan is once again giving us a new lavishly assembled multi-disc set. The latest comes as part of his long-running Bootleg Series, with this latest instalment exploring Dylan's divisive "gospel years" with Trouble No More – The Bootleg Series Vol. 13 / 1979-1981.
The sprawling set will arrive via Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings on November 3, and it aims to shine a light on the songwriter's late '70s/early '80s output that gave fans such albums as Slow Train Coming (1979), Saved (1980) and Shot of Love (1981).
The most deluxe edition will feature eight CDs, as well as one DVD. The set comes with 100 previously unreleased live and studio recordings, including 14 previously unreleased songs. Among all this is a Toronto concert from 1980.
The deluxe set also includes a hardcover book featuring an introduction by Dylan scholar Ben Rollins with liner notes by Amanda Petrusich, Rob Bowman and Penn Jillette. The DVD features the Jennifer Lebeau-directed film Trouble No More: A Musical Film, which is described as "a new feature-length cinematic presentation combining unreleased footage from Dylan's 1980 tours with new material written by Luc Sante and performed by Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon."
