Imagine Incubus's Brandon Boyd fronting the Strokes with Fugazi's Ian MacKaye producing the record and you'll begin to get an idea of where Seattle-based Blue Sky Smile are coming from on their debut disc. The music features dual guitar noodling and steady backbeats while vocalist Jerry Kansky delivers his English major-inspired lyrics with passionate melodicism. It's a record that's clever, angular and minimalist with distinctive punk rock underpinnings.
