Published Oct 22, 2014Medium-spanning label Wist Rec. normally focuses on short-form releases (such as soundtracks to classic novellas), but the Irish-Canadian imprint is now preparing to release its first proper full-length. British-Canadian combo the Blue Funz will release Songs for Ed Ricketts on November 14.
For those unfamiliar with the Funz, they include members of Devon Folklore Tapes, Man Meets Bear and the Winks. Over the years, they've released albums under a number of colour-coded pseudonyms (the White Funz, the Red Funz, etc.). Their new album is based on Ed Ricketts, an American marine biologist who was a close associate of John Steinbeck before dying in 1948.
Below, listen to a five-song sampler with snippets of cuts from Songs for Ed Ricketts.
Of course, this is Wist Rec. we're talking about, so the format is anything but conventional. The album is limited to 100 copies, and it comes in a 24-page watercolour zine with paintings from Wist Rec.'s go-to artist Manfred Naescher. Pre-orders will begin on November 7.
This is part of the label's Wist. Ed series. Next up, in 2015, is Nadja's Songs for Wong Kar-wai.
