Six years after The Fathomless Mastery, Swedish horror-themed death metal supergroup Bloodbath are back with their fourth album, Grand Morbid Funeral. Katatonia's Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse return with Martin Axenrot (Opeth, Witchery) and Per Eriksson (21 Lucifers, Komotio), and following the departure of Opeth's Mikael Åkerfeldt, the band are now joined by Paradise Lost vocalist Nick Holmes. Infamous for their work within the realm of gothic metal, these members join forces to create dark, visceral death metal under the Bloodbath moniker.

Grand Morbid Funeral maintains the band's traditional sound, which combines the raw aggression of death metal with ominous doom-ridden melodies in an Entombed-meets-the early Florida death metal scene kind of way. While many were hesitant to accept Holmes as a worthy frontman replacement, he has surpassed expectations with powerful and sinister throat-gurgling delivery. Also featuring guest appearances by Autopsy's Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler, Bloodbath have upped the brutality ante with Grand Morbid Funeral.
