Blood Orange

"Uncle Ace" (Kindness remix ft. Robert Owens) (video)

With a new remix 12-inch of Blood Orange's Cupid Deluxe track "Uncle Ace" just around the corner, the artist otherwise known as Dev Hynes is now teasing the release with a personal history-explaining new video for the set's Kindness remix.

Rhythmically, Kindness's redo brings the tempo down, stripping away house-pop textures in favour of a slinkier, minimalist soft funk arrangement of Prince-like vocal harmonies and sensual sax blasts. The video is just as intimate, finding Hynes walking around his hometown of Ilford, Essex, England, observing street life and enjoying some time on the football pitch.

Interspersed throughout the video are a series of questions like "Did your hometown influence the adult you became?" and "Are there songs which you link with your hometown?" And though none are directly answered in the clip, you can find a transcript revealing the results over here.

The "Uncle Ace" single is available now as a digital download, and will be issued on 12-inch vinyl May 19 through Domino.
