Blood Meridian

Liquidate Paris

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 27, 2007

Recorded with no intention of being released, Liquidate Paris is the third full-length from Vancouver-based Black Mountain offshoot Blood Meridian. Back from touring their excellent Kick Up the Dust full-length, songwriter Matthew Camirand and drummer Josh Wells started messing around with an eight-track recorder and ended up recording this nine-song full-length. The result is a warmer sounding version of the band’s dreary, country-tinged indie rock. "Everything She Said” opens the record with a brooding acoustic number, not unlike their Mountain-dwelling brethren. "The Burning River of Guilt” kicks things up a notch with a full band and memorable organ. The balance of moody dirges and up-tempo numbers create a healthy variety, establishing a consistent tone throughout the record.
