Blonde Redhead are back! The well-loved rock trio of Kazu Makino and Italian twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace have announced their first new LP in nine years, as well as a run of North American tour dates for this fall.
Sit Down for Dinner — the band's 10th full-length studio offering — arrives September 29 via section1. It follows 2014's Barragán.
Written and recorded over five years and throughout various locations (including New York City, upstate New York, Milan and Tuscany), the new record draws its title from a passage on grief from Joan Didion's 2005 memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking: "Life changes fast. Life changes in the instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends."
"We have a language we have kept," Makino said of the long-running outfit in a statement. "We try to change rhythms, concepts, and sounds. But that harmonic sensibility has stayed the same. It hits the same part of your heart."
This unique mode of communication is on display in full force on lead single "Snowman," inspired by the Swingle Singers' a capella renditions of Bach. "I got inspired to write a song that only had two chords and a melody that would live and float between them," Amedeo said of the track, which came to be while coping with motion sickness on a bus trip through the Monte Rosa mountains. "'Snowman' is about how it can be a blessing or a curse to be invisible and undetectable, and how it's something we all feel and desire at times."
Blonde Redhead will take their new music on the road this fall, starting on October 16 in San Francisco. The trek includes a pair of Canadian dates, with shows scheduled to take place at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Toronto on November 2 and Montreal's Studio TD on November 3. Tickets go on sale this Friday (June 2) at 10 a.m. local time.
