Black Lives Matter — a Statement from Exclaim!

We will not be publishing during Blackout Tuesday and instead encourage you to support these organizations

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jun 2, 2020

In support of Black Lives Matter and The Show Must Be Paused initiative, Exclaim! will not be publishing today as part of Blackout Tuesday. Following the needless deaths of George Floyd, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many more Black citizens, we stand in solidarity with the music industry's call for a moment of silence and reflection.

While protests continue in the U.S., racism extends far beyond America's borders, and Canada is not immune. Racism is not an "American problem," with discrimination having systemic footholds both in Canada and across the globe — the death of 29-year-old Toronto woman Regis Korchinski-Paquet being only one of many recent examples.

We ask that you too stand against racism not only during this 24-hour initiative, but in the many days and years to come. Accountability and change are needed now more than ever, with today only being one small step towards a better, more unified tomorrow.
