Black Joe Lewis

"Messin'" on Exclaim! TV

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Jul 24, 2014

After shedding the "Honeybears" portion of his name that had stuck to him like the sticky, sugary sweet syrup, Black Joe Lewis returned in 2013 with his critically-acclaimed LP Electric Slaves, a name he uses to describe people who walk around day-to-day "with their faces buried in their iPhones." Of course, that only makes it that much funnier if you're reading about this Exclaim! TV session on your mobile device, but we digress.

The Texan stopped by the Exclaim! office before his appearance at this month's TURF to deliver a Yamaha acoustic guitar-assisted solo rendition of "Messin,'" a song originally recorded when he was backed by the bears.

The no-nonsense performance is over before you know it, clocking in at less than two minutes, but we argue it leaves more of a lasting impression than an electrified version would.

Lewis is spending another week north of the border this August, this time focusing on the Western provinces. Find those Canadian appearances below, followed by the Exclaim! TV session of "Messin.'"
