Black Horse The Black Arts of Black Horse

Black Horse The Black Arts of Black Horse
Black Horse are a Brooklyn-by-way-of-Seattle duo who’ve made dark, lo-fi rock’n’roll since 2004. The Black Arts of The Black Horse, their debut record, is a fitting introduction to their gloomy, noisy garage rock. Utilising programmed beats, Southern guitar riffs and male-female vocals, the record has its share of substantial ideas. Opener "Shake Shake Shake” does just that with its wall of guitars and slow pace, while "Make My Country Bleed” packs a faster punch. Still, the real gem of the album is "Hey Sailor,” with its contemplative vocals and stadium-ready guitar runs. Though it suffers from some thematic clichés ("Lapdance Technician” is particularly bad), The Black Arts Of is fitting proof that Black Horse are carving a niche for themselves in the current garage rock revival.
