Black Eyed Peas, Sufjan Stevens and R.E.M. Named in the <i>Village Voice</i>'s Worst Lyrics of the Decade

Over the past few months, many critics have weighed in about the highlights of the past decade. The writers at the Village Voice have opted to take another route, compiling a round-robin breakdown of the worst lyrics of the past ten years.

The article singles out 16 clunkers (plus three additional 9/11-related lyrics not included in the round robin), placing them in two separate brackets: the Sting Bracket and the Alanis Morissette Bracket. There are plenty of predictable choices, as Nickelback and the Backstreet Boys make the requisite appearances. There are also a few surprises, though, such as R.E.M. and Sufjan Stevens.

However, few will argue with "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas receiving the dubious honour of "Worst Lyric of the Decade." While most of the entries in the round robin single out a particularly offending lyric, "My Humps" simply reads "all of it." Although if you had to pick only one line, it would surely have to be that "Mix your milk with my cocoa puff" part.
