Black Belles Leader Olivia Jean Announces Jack White-Produced Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 22, 2014

Olivia Jean has many ties to Jack White and his Third Man Records: Not only does she front label signees the Black Belles, she has backed other roster members like Wanda Jackson, Karen Elson and even White himself. Now, Jean has announced her debut solo effort for the imprint. Bathtub Love Killings will be out on October 14.

The album was produced by White. An announcement describes it like this: "Playing damn-near every instrument she could get her hands on, the result is a well-rounded, catchy record that's chock-a-block full of ear worm moments." The title is inspired by an 18th-century serial murderer.

For a taste of what the album sounds like, watch a five-and-a-half-minute trailer below, which shows the breadth of her multi-instrumental talent. Also below, hear a three-song sampler made up of 30-second snippets.

The album will be available digitally and on CD and vinyl. This is Third Man we're talking about, so of course there is a special coloured edition as well: a lavender-coloured pressing will be available directly from the label.
