Maybe it was the larger stage, or perhaps the hometown advantage, but Black Atlass (a.k.a. Alex Fleming) has made progress in the months since he played in Toronto, where we mentioned that "his stage presence evinces slight nerves." His set oozed confidence as he playfully bantered with the crowd as he swayed to the strains of EP standbys like "Castles," "Black Dog" and "Hills," alongside forthcoming, unreleased cuts he's preparing to put out soon. With his DJ Scott Pilgrim as his hype man, Fleming was free to work the crowd, and he did, staring intently into the crowd where he might once have glanced above them. He closed with "Jewels," a slow-burning new track that builds to a gigantic crescendo, thanked the crowd, and left to rapturous applause. Now let's have those new songs.
