BJ the Chicago Kid Pays Tribute to D'Angelo on Covers EP

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 4, 2016

BJ the Chicago Kid had a big year in 2015, teaming up with some impressive names like Big K.R.I.T., Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper, and Joey Bada$$ to name a few, but he kicked off the new year with a tribute to one of his own personal heroes. Over the weekend, BJ unveiled a three-song tribute EP honouring the work of soul titan D'Angelo.

It hears him taking on "Always in My Hair," "Send It On" and "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," celebrating D'Angelo's album Voodoo, which was released 16 years ago this month.

"I had to celebrate his genius by paying homage to his legacy while he continues to kill the game and make great music," the performer said in a press release. "It's a new year and there's no better way to start it off than taking it back to where it all began for me. This is real soul/R&B."
