Bison Forced To Change Name To Bison B.C.

BY Cam LindsayPublished Jul 28, 2008

Is there anything more annoying for a band then changing a name right when you're on the verge of releasing an album? Just ask renowned victims like Bush (X), the Charlatans (UK), (London) Suede, Caribou (formerly Manitoba) — the list is endless — how pleasant it was to go back and reprint merchandise and try to get the word out that you are now known as something else. Well, it's probably even harder for a band when they aren't quite as established and are about to unveil their debut album. Such is the case for Vancouver's Bison, who are now officially known as Bison B.C.

According to the band, the reason behind the name change is the same old situation: another band owned Bison. In a statement, the band say with a drop of venom, "We didn't want to get sued by some limey ska band or any one of a million college football bands."

As we previously reported, the band recently signed a sweet deal with Metal Blade, which will release their debut full-length, Quiet Earth, the follow-up to this year's EP, Earthbound. Bison B.C. will be performing on the Exclaim! Aggressive Tendencies Tour this September and October with Baroness and Genghis Tron. Tickets are available through Union Events or Ticketmaster.
