Big Sugar to Host Livestream Release Party for New Album 'Eternity Now'

The event will take place this Friday

Celebrating the release of their brand new studio album, Eternity Now, Big Sugar mastermind Gordie Johnson has announced plans to premiere the record this week in a special livestream event.

With the band's album release party and subsequent tour cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, Johnson will perform the entirety of the album — as well as remixes of some Big Sugar classics — in an intimate show recorded from his personal studio. The event is synced up with the album's official release date, this Friday (May 8).

Johnson elaborated on the forthcoming experience:

I'm excited to share with my fans an innovative live-stream Big Sugar album release party planned for May 8, 2020. With shelter-in-place orders keeping my band members in separate cities and countries, I'll be performing guitar and vocals live to a special pre-recorded remix of the original Eternity Now album tracks. Fans will get to hear the full sound of the new record and see me perform without a safety net in one take, LIVE…

Eternity Now was recorded in "the aftermath of many tragic life-changing events both within and beyond our control," the band wrote in a statement. The album, which arrives via Universal Music Canada, was initially set to drop back in March. It is touted as the culmination of Johnson's signature 1970s thump and psycho-acoustic dub style.

Eternity Now follows the release of Big Sugar's 2018 record ICON
