The Big Pink Detail 'Future This' LP

The Big Pink Detail 'Future This' LP
When the Big Pink unveiled their cinematically pop-friendly single "Stay Gold" back in September, they promised that their album Future This would be arriving in January. Sure enough, the sophomore LP will be coming to stores on January 17 via 4AD.

Speaking with Spin, multi-instrumentalist Milo Cordell explained that the ten-song effort was recorded with British mega-producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Cee Lo Green, Florence and the Machine) at his home studio.

The producer apparently helped the duo to bring out their radio-ready side. Citing Britney Spears, Aaliyah, Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins as influences, Cordell said, "It's all pop music. I think they all made big, conscious pop records and I think we've done the same."

He emphasized that Future This is a "fun" album, and noted, "I think the average BPM on this so record is so much higher than anything we've done before."

Several of the songs were based around samples. Cordell explained, "'Hit the Ground (Superman)' has got a Laurie Anderson sample, 'Give it Up' has an old soul sample in it by Ann Peebles, 'Lose Your Mind' actually has a sample from Siouxsie and the Banshees in it. And 'The Palace' samples the theme from True Romance, that weird kind of swing."

The Laurie Anderson-sampling "Hit the Ground (Superman)" recently premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC 1 radio show. Check out a radio rip over at Listen Before You Buy.
