Big Deal Return with 'Sakura' EP, Premiere New Song

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 22, 2014

Last summer, Big Deal dished out June Gloom on their sophomore full-length of the same name, and they are poised to make their return this upcoming sunny season with a more bite-sized offering. A four-song EP dubbed Sakura is set to arrive July 15 in North America through Mute and a day earlier overseas.

A press release explains that the mini-set continues to explore the "SoCal harmonies and bigger production" heard on June Gloom, while also dipping way back in to the band's back catalogue. A redo of "Talk," originally off the group's 2012 debut Lights Out, opens the set, recast from its stark roots into a full-band "grunged-up" version.

Elsewhere on the set, new single "Always Boys" features a few minimalist moments, but is otherwise presented as an amp-cranked pop song that finds Alice Costelloe singing about "boys that play guitar." You'll find a stream of the song down below.

In addition to the new EP, Big Deal will be releasing a deluxe digital edition of June Gloom on July 21.

Sakura:

1. Talk (reprise)
2. Always Boys
3. Sakura
4. Figure it Out
