Big D and the Kids Table

Strictly Rude

Big D and company continue with their brand of upbeat, good time ska on Strictly Rude. This time out it appears as though they’ve lost some of their heavier elements, trading them in for a more roots-based approach best exemplified by "Noise Complaint” and the title track. Where Big D excel are taking the basic ska formula and tweaking it enough to make it seem fresh and new without turning away from the genre’s roots. Songs like "Souped-Up Vinyl” give a nod to their punk leanings but incorporate enough organ and horns to make sure you don’t forget whom you’re listening to. The ultimate accomplishment of Strictly Rude is that it’s a record you can listen to alone in your room or put on at a crowded house party and be confident everyone will dig it.
