Published May 18, 2011Having been one of the breakthrough indie artists of 2010, Best Coast songwriter Bethany Cosentino has kept herself busy as of late with a string of high-profile collaborations. She's already teamed up with the Go! Team, Wavves and Rivers Cuomo, and now she's working with New Found Glory.
The long-running pop punk act are currently working on a new album called Radiosurgery, and it will feature a guest spot from Cosentino. Yesterday (May 17), New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert wrote a blog post explaining how Cosentino and the punk outfit came together:
We have been big fans of her band for a while now. We met Best Coast through the power of Twitter. The story goes, I wanted to get in to see their sold out show at the Troubador and didn't have a ticket. I tweeted them half-kidding about putting me on the guest list! Come to find out they were NFG fans and totally hooked me up. Since then we've been buds!
As for the exact nature of the collaboration, Gilbert revealed that she "sang vocals on one of our new songs." He's clearly excited about the results, as he enthused, "Y'all gonna flip when you hear dis shies!"
In a post on Monday (May 16), the axe-slinger revealed that the bed tracks on the new record are done, and the band have moved on to vocals and lead guitars. By the sound of things, we'll be hearing the new album before the year is out.
No word yet on how this will affect what's left of Cosentino's "indie cred."
