Published Jun 22, 2010Now that the bottom is falling out of the record industry, musicians are looking for new ways to make money. This year, many artists have turned to corporate deals to pay the bills: we've seen the Shins, She & Him and Dirty Projectors in the Levi's Pioneer Sessions, while Black Lips and Bonnie "Prince" Billy have signed on to Adult Swim's new Kia-sponsored singles series. Now, more indie musicians will be getting in on the action, as sneaker giant Converse will be rolling out a new star-packed song and video next month.
The shoe company, which is owned by Nike, has brought together a genre-spanning supergroup featuring fuzz pop favourites Best Coast, rapper Kid Cudi and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij. This is the latest instalment in the company's "Three Artists One Song" campaign, which previously featured Julian Casablancas, Santigold and Pharrell Williams back in 2008.
Check out the teaser video below, featuring Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino talking about her love of the California sunshine. Also, be sure to enjoy the video's many lingering shots of Cosentino's Chuck Taylor's during the performance clips. According to a press release, videos of Rostam Batmanglij and Kid Cudi will follow.
