Bespoken

'plays Nick Storring and Daniel Brandes' (album stream)

Halifax's Divorce Records has launched a cassette sub-label called Heavy Fog, which focuses on experimental classical music. Its first release is Toronto chamber ensemble Bespoken's plays Nick Storring and Daniel Brandes, which comes out today (November 6) and is available to stream on Exclaim.ca.

Bespoken formed this past spring for a concert in which they performed two pieces: Aigre Douce by Bespoken member Nick Storring and Intimations of Melody by composer Daniel Brandes. The performance was intended to be a one-off, but it apparently went so well that they have extended their collaboration.

This album consists of the two aforementioned pieces. Aigre Douce is a minimal, multi-part suite, while the half-hour Intimations of Melody is a softly sprawling mood piece.

It's available digitally and in a run of 100 tapes, which can be purchased here.
