All right, let's get serious here for a second: you probably forgot it was Father's Day last weekend. So instead of giving your dad a collect call or sending him a belated six-pack of beer, treat your old man right by taking him to one of Exclaim!'s can't miss concerts for the week of June 20-26.

Besnard Lakes

Psychedelic shoegazers Besnard Lakes continue their West Coast assault in support of of their 2013 LP, Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO, with a string of intimate dates, including back to back performances at Edmonton's Artery art space and Nelson, BC's historic Hume Hotel.

Matt Epp

Freewheelin' folk troubadour Matt Epp grinds his way through the Maritimes and Toronto on behalf of his recently released LP Learning to Lose Control. Arrive early to catch opening performances from melancholic indie rockers French Press, as well as roots veteran Al Tuck, who will be tagging along for the Mount Stewart stop of the tour to play cuts from his critically acclaimed new album, Stranger at the Wake.

Ottawa Jazz Fest

Taking place over two weeks in the heart of the nation's capital, this year's TD Ottawa Jazz Festival promises to be a good one, with headlining sets from the likes of Glen Hansard and Gypsophilia, as well as David Byrne & St. Vincent, who will be playing the sole Canadian date on their current world tour. Ottawa Explosion Weekend

Whoever first referred to Ottawa as "the place that fun forgot" obviously never went to Ottawa Explosion Weekend. For the third incarnation of the popular punk fest, this year's five day extended weekend will feature sets from local and international acts such as Kremlin, the Creeps and Holy Cobras. Sled Island Festival

Calgary's Sled Island has been entertaining left-leaning listeners for almost a decade. To celebrate its seventh anniversary, the alternative music festival has recruited Thee Oh Sees' John Dwyer and Tim Hecker to help curate the week-long party, with sets from fellow indie rock visionaries the Jesus and Mary Chain, Iceage, Superchunk and Divine Fits. A Tribe Called Red

First Nations DJ collective A Tribe Called Red have been blowing up as of late, recently receiving an Exclaim! Mark of Excellence for their sophomore LP Nation II Nationand a nod for the Polaris Music Prize long list. Catch the rising trio play a pair of rare club dates at Toronto's Opera House and Saskatoon's Amigos as part of the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.

Willie Nelson

Prolific country singer Willie Nelson comes to Canada to play a set of gigs at Massey Hall and the Ottawa Jazz Festival in support of his latest covers album, Let's Face the Music and Dance. Being that the red headed stranger celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year, it may be a wise idea to catch the historic songwriter before he disappears into the great big puff of pot smoke in the sky.

Young Galaxy

Canadian dream-pop outfit Young Galaxy head to Ottawa to play one of two Canadian summer dates in support of their newest full-length Ultramarine. The band doesn't kick off their headlining North American tour until later this fall, so get a glimpse of the enigmatic five-piece early, while you still have the chance.
