The Besnard Lakes Scoring Upcoming Mark Ruffalo Film, Launch New Side-Project the Soft Province

Perhaps Black Francis and the Pixies need to take some lessons from the Besnard Lakes on how to hook up with Hollywood directors to score films. The epic Montreal indie rockers have caught the ears of actor Mark Ruffalo and will be collaborating with him on his directorial debut, Sympathy for Delicious.

According to The Playlist, Ruffalo was a fan of the band and searched them out to score the film, a drama about a paralysed man on the streets of Los Angeles. The film, shot earlier this year, is currently in post-production and stars Ruffalo, Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis and Laura Linney.

In other Besnard news, the band's front-man, Jace Lase, has started a new side-project with his friend Michael Gardiner called the Soft Province to explore his mellower, less symphonic side. The duo's recently erected MySpace page says they are influenced by "the first four Bee Gees records," and they have already posted a series of tracks, which in our humble opinion are right up there with some of the best cuts from The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse. And considering how that record was an Exclaim! favourite when it was released in 2007, that's saying a lot.
