Bernie Sanders Has a Framed RHCP Poster

When it comes to American health care, he wants to give it away give it away now

What do Senator Bernie Sanders and dorm-dwelling freshmen have in common? The answer is simple: both of them have Red Hot Chili Peppers posters hanging on the wall above the desk.

This surprising revelation came today during a remote Senate hearing, when Sanders spoke from what appears to be his home office. Behind him on the wall was a bass drum head from Prince's band New Power Generation, plus the pièce de résistance: a framed concert poster from forever-shirtless slap bass hornballs the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It's actually not that weird that Sanders has this particular RHCP poster: it's the poster from one of his 2016 fundraisers that was headlined by the band.

Still, its placement seems significant. Of all the cool bands who have played Sanders rallies — Bon Iver, Neil Young, the Strokes, Public Enemy — he's chosen to put the Chili Peppers in the spot of honour behind his desk.

We have lots of questions. Is there any chance Sanders will be Biden's running mate during the fall election? Now that a presidential run is off the table, what will Sanders do help defeat Donald Trump? Does he enjoy RHCP's early funk-rap material, or does he prefer the pop-friendly work from Californication and beyond?
