Benjamin Gibbard & Andrew Kenny Home: Volume V

The fifth part in a series of releases celebrating the idea of "home sweet home,” Home: Volume V may prove to be the best collection Post-Parlo Records will ever issue. Featuring Ben Gibbard, the lovable songsmith behind Death Cab For Cutie and the Postal Service, and Andrew Kenny of American Analog Set, this eight-song split is as heartfelt as it can get. Gibbard’s four songs include three brand new ones and a cover of "Choir Vandals” from AmAnSet’s 2002 album, Know by Heart. Of course, hearing him sing about such a wonderful subject is a reason enough to buy it. Using simple arrangements based around his vocals and an acoustic guitar, it’s easy to see why he’s such a beloved figure in indie rock. Kenny’s contributions are presented very much the same, setting free "Hometown Fantasy,” the very first song he ever wrote, along with two new songs and a cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s "Line of Best Fit” (from 1998’s Something About Airplanes). A must for any of fan of either artist, this split album is a taste of what’s to come from Home, with expected volumes from Damien Jurado, Julie Doiron, Les Savy Fav and Crooked Fingers, among others.
