Add another notch to your summer festivals calendar, as the Vancouver-based Olio Festival looks to deliver a multifaceted showcase of music, comedy, art and film from August 13 to 16.
The festival, which is non-profit and takes place in various venues in downtown Vancouver and Gastown (a ten-minute walk from the city core), includes such musical names as the Paper Cranes, Sex With Strangers, Defektors, the Clips, Gang Violence and Bend Sinister, as well as comedy by Nardwuar and a host of Vancouver DJs spinning their sets. In total, over 100 Vancouver and international artists will perform or have their work shown during the four-day event.
Passes are a mere $25 and are available online or from Redcat Records, Zulu, Scratch and Beatstreet in Vancouver. Individual shows run anywhere from $8 to $15, so the pass is well worth it for those who plan to barhop during the event. And with over 20 events in total, there's an overabundance of options.
Besides the music and comedy, each venue during the festival will feature art displays and film screenings by Vancouver artists.
