Published Feb 01, 2000Who are you?
Ben Hardy, freelance photographer and one third of The Connecticut Plan (up and coming Montreal indie/emo/soul/rock project).
What are you up to?
We are currently writing and polishing songs for the Connecticut Plan's debut album, and sometimes working on my BA in Political Science at McGill.
Hometown and current HQ:
San Francisco, Montreal.
The Weakerthans, Aretha Franklin.
Mind altering work of art:
Sunny Day Real Estate-Diary, Jawbreaker-Dear You, Miles Davis-Kind of Blue.
Most memorable/inspirational gig and why?
Superchunk, Halloween 99 @ Cabaret, Mtl.
They came out in costume and opened with Bowie's Scary Monsters. A well oiled rock machine that keeps me from loosing faith in indie rock and the power of loud guitars.
What should everyone shut up about?
Dancer in the Dark.
Your greatest strength and weakness:
Your vital daily ritual:
Waking up to the CBC.
If I wasn't playing music (or trying to...) I would be:
Making movies (or trying to...)
Your most memorable day job:
Amoebe Music in San Francisco.
Best/worst advice received:
Don't let school get in the way of your education.
I would drop everything to play a benefit for:
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band? And have you?
When I think of Canada I think:
Of the country that LOST the war of 1812.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Yes, i have lots of music.
Strangest brush with celebrity:
Jean Leloup came into my friend's store and bought a very ugly plaid shirt.
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
Going to law school.
