Behind Enemy Lines

HIP-HOP

One of the more intriguing developments to come out of the war in Iraq has been the number of soldiers who have chosen to express themselves through hip-hop. The latest example comes in the form of the compilation Voices From the Frontline. While the music isn’t exactly classic material, the desire to expose what really goes on is what fuels the record. Compelling commentary from soldiers about their daily lives on patrol in Iraq, missing loved ones, dealing with the deaths of fellow soldiers and the role of women in the military are just some of the issues covered. But if you’re looking for Bush-bashing or outright indictments of the war itself, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
