We called Childish Gambino's 2013 album Because the Internet a "vast improvement over his debut effort," but the actor-turned-musician known as Donald Glover still has a ways to go before he's as acclaimed as the biggest names in rap. Don't tell that to Glover, however, since he has performed a freestyle declaring himself the best in the game.
Childish Gambino performed last night (July 27) at Sydney, Australia's Hordern Pavilion. The freestyle in question occurred during the encore. "I'm the best rapper, definitely top five," he rapped. "I cut their head off, that's every rapper living, that's Kendrick, that's Drake, that's Schoolboy, that's everyone! I don't give a fuck! I'll fucking kill you niggas! I'll fucking kill you niggas! These niggas think I'm bigger."
By calling out a string of rappers and using murderous metaphors to claim his superiority, Gambino's freestyle seems to be modelled after Kendrick Lamar's instantly legendary verse from Big Sean's "Control."
Of course, the difference is that Lamar is widely considered one of the best rappers around while Glover arguably isn't. Still, judging by bootleg footage of Gambino's confrontational freestyle, the fans are clearly electrified by his references Lamar, Drake and Schoolboy Q.
