Beefs 2013: Jimmy Kimmel Responds to Morrissey's "Dumb" Statement

This week, shit-stirring pop crooner Morrissey has been embroiled in a flame war with talk show host Jimmy Kimmel after the former Smiths frontman refused to appear on the same episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live as the cast of the duck-hunting show Duck Dynasty. Following the staunch vegetarian's vitriolic statement, Kimmel responded with some words of his own.

Yesterday (February 27), Kimmel tweeted, "note to Morrissey — if you have more dumb statements to make, I invite you to make them where I do, on my show."

He also posted the cover artwork of 2004's You Are the Quarry in what is presumably a succinct rebuttal to Morrissey's accusation that Kimmel promoted gun ownership (since the artwork shows the singer wielding a machine gun).

Then, on his show, the host expanded upon his thoughts, saying [via Billboard], "This has nothing to do with people who eat meat versus people who don't. I'm completely respectful of people who do not eat meat, but the statement he made is ridiculous. I'd like to invite him to join the show to discuss. I'm an open, even-handed person, and I consider all points of view... If I keep saying it, maybe it will be true. I've invited him to talk this out, and perhaps we will both be better men for it, but probably not."

It remains to be seen whether Morrissey accepts Kimmel's invitation to appear on his show, but we wouldn't count on it.

Morrissey's angry statement was sparked by Kimmel's parody video in which the cast of Duck Dynasty go hunting for carrots and broccoli. This led Morrissey to claim that the host promoted depression, healthy eating, gun ownership and animal cruelty. Watch that below.
