Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong has been having a rough go of it lately. Not only did he check into rehab following an onstage meltdown at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, but he's become a punching bag lately. Now the Melvins are getting in on the action, insulting the pop punk singer in their latest tour diary for Spin.
In a post published today (September 26), Melvins Lite bassist Trevor Dunn addressed Armstrong's recent public struggles. "There's nothing worse then some rock'n'roll brat throwing a tantrum and going AWOL just because he can't keep himself occupied," he wrote, adding, "Yes, I'm referring to that little weasel in Green Day."
Referring to Armstrong's onstage comment that "I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers," Dunn wrote, "That guy's main problem is that he doesn't realize that he is Justin Bieber. He should take some of the green in his wallet, buy himself a green smoothie and relax."
Lest all these insults seem a little too petty, Dunn wrapped up his attack by mocking Armstrong's music. "What kind of band name is Green Day anyway?" he asked. "Is that in reference to all the chord progressions they continually recycle?"
By the sounds of things, Dunn isn't too impressed by (or, more likely, hasn't listened to) Green Day's new album, ¡Uno!, which came out yesterday (September 25).
The Melvins, meanwhile, are continuing with their plan to play all 50 states plus Washington, DC, in 51 days, despite the fact that it probably won't set a record.
