Beefs 2012: Flying Lotus Sounds Off on Beach House's 'Bloom'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 17, 2012

Luscious Baltimore dream pop duo Beach House delivered their fourth full-length LP Bloom earlier this week, an album Exclaim! called "hugely effective, affecting and ultimately beautiful." Out-there California beatsmith Flying Lotus has weighed in on the effort, too, but the producer is ultimately shrugging his shoulders on this one.

Taking to his Twitter account, Flying Lotus delivered a backhanded compliment to Beach House, admitting that the record was decent, but not entirely original.

"This new beach house record is coo. Just makes me wonder how so many bands are totally fine with sounding exactly like another band," he posted. "Doesn't mean its bad... feels like i heard this album before a million times already. Its just TOO familiar sounding, i duno. Now time to buy the killer mike lp."

He didn't go into detail as to whom he felt the act is cribbing, but chances are good a record clerk won't successfully up-sell a copy of Bloom when Flying Lotus brings a copy of Killer Mike's El-P-assisted R.A.P. Music to the cash register.

Beach House have not commented on the diss.
