Beefs 2011: Bon Iver Doesn't Care About Your Stupid Grammys

Perhaps because the world made such a commotion about the Arcade Fire's win last year, the Grammy voters have decided to keep up with the kids this year, offering up relatively hip nominations like Mumford & Sons and Kanye West. Bon Iver cleaned up with four nominations, but the project's frontman Justin Vernon insists he doesn't give a shit.

Pitchfork points to some recently unearthed, months-old interview excerpts from the New York Times, where Bon Iver talks about the pointlessness of the Grammys:

I don't think the Bon Iver record is the kind of record that would get nominated for a Grammy -- I would get up there and be like, "This is for my parents, because they supported me," because I know they would think it would be stupid of me not to go up there. But I kinda felt like going up there and being like: "Everyone should go home, this is ridiculous. You should not be doing this. We should not be gathering in a big room and look at each other and pretending this is important..." And who is that award given by? It's like they think it's literally handed down by the musical-history gods. And I don't know who the voters are. Like, I have a friend who's a voter who was like, "I had to be a voter because I don't trust the other voters." And I was like, "Me either!" And it's just not important and people spend too much time thinking about it.

If anything, this statement makes us root for Vernon that much more. How great would it be if he got up there and gave the crowd a verbal lashing in the vein of Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes!

At the very least, Vernon has found a new fan in Rosie O'Donnell. As the AV Club observes, the comedienne tweeted that she was listening to Bon Iver, writing, "well first it sounded a tad redundant -- i like the song perth -- its good music for making dinner."
