Published Mar 06, 2015How's this for irony? Last month, Kanye West called on Beck to give his Grammy Award for Album of the Year to Beyoncé, saying that "Beck needs to respect artistry." Now, the mighty internet has pointed out that Beck's dad, David Campbell, actually worked on Beyoncé's 2006 album B'Day.
This nugget of information came out in a TIL (Today I Learned) post on Reddit. Campbell provided string arrangements and conducting to the album, which won the 2007 Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
Not only is the conductor Beck's father, he's also a close collaborator and has provided string arrangements to some of Beck's albums including — yes, you guessed it — the Grammy-winning album Morning Phase.
So perhaps Campbell has something of a golden touch for the Grammys? After all, he has worked with insanely successful artists of all genres (like Adele, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, Muse, U2, Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift and Linkin Park).
Maybe if Kanye is as sorry as he claims to be for his comments regarding Beck's victory, he will hire Campbell to compose some last-minute additions for his new album?
