Published Jul 18, 2012We're getting a little impatient for a new album from Beck, who hasn't dropped a proper full-length of original material since 2008's Modern Guilt. Still, he's been giving us a smattering of low-key releases, from a Jack White-produced single to soundtrack contributions to rap collaborations, and now he's contributed some songs to the upcoming PlayStation game Sound Shapes.
Pitchfork reports that Beck is offering up three new tunes for the game: "Cities," "Touch the People" and "Spiral Staircase." Other contributors to the game include deadmau5, Jim Guthrie (who has soundtracked videogames before) and Toronto's I Am Robot and Proud.
According to PlayStation's website, Sound Shapes is a "a unique take on the classic side-scrolling platformer where your actions make the music." It's said to be "equal parts instrument and game." It will be available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita starting August 7.

In related news, Beck has shared a live cover of Woody Guthrie's "Aint Got No Home," which he performed back in the '90s. Stream it at the bottom of the page.
