Beck

"Timebomb"

Wow, check out Beck! Maybe I'm just out of it or maybe I just agree with the dude from Liars who said "at one point Beck was awesome... with One Foot in the Grave, that sort of stuff," but it's nice to hear he can slip into something so obviously trendy and come out, not only sounding comfortable, but with something that is pretty hard to knock. Or is it? Try playing this right after LCD Soundsystem's "North American Scum" and a sea of red flags should flood the place. (Compare them in the two players if you don't believe me.) But Beck's the kind of artist that can use his cred as a "visionary" to release a single like this (though I'd bet on my house that he listens to The Sound of Silver religiously). It's good to see him following up the unconventional formats of The Information, though, with another one, this one-off iTunes-at-first-but-not-strictly single. More artists should take note of his ambition and do something like this.

P.S. Hats off to Pitchfork for having the only blog with a decent version of this song.
