Published Jun 04, 2013While Beck may be planning on releasing an acoustic LP sometime in the future, the eclectic songsmith has unveiled a new trippy electro-pop experiment called "Defriended" that eschews the unplugged aesthetic.
True, there are some gently strummed acoustic guitar chords unfurling in the woozy number, but they're surrounded by choppy snare fills, slippery fretless bass slides and sci-fi synth blips. Altogether, it has an Animal Collective vibe threaded throughout its alternately spacey and spacious arrangement.

According to Rolling Stone, the song won't figure on an LP and will be followed up with another online single later this summer.
The acoustic set, meanwhile, is reportedly set for a fall release, and there's apparently another LP in the works that's more in tune with 2008's Modern Guilt.
