The Beatles' U.S. Albums Receiving Box Set Treatment

The Beatles' U.S. Albums Receiving Box Set Treatment
The Beatles' classic albums have been treated to various box set reissues in recent years, including mono, stereo and vinyl. Early next year, yet another box set package will arrive, as The U.S. Albums will come out on January 21 via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol Records/Universal Music.

This release marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first U.S. visit, which took place in February of 1964. The set includes 13 CDs in all, and they differ from the UK versions in various ways, including tracklists, mixes, album titles and artwork. The bulk of the titles that appear here are different from the ones in the prior box sets, which featured the UK albums.

Most of the albums here include both mono and stereo versions, although The Beatles' Story and Hey Jude are only in stereo. The CD packages replicate the original LP artwork right down to the inner sleeves, and the box comes with a 64-page booklet of photos, artwork, and an essay.

The albums, with the exception of the audio documentary The Beatles' Story, will also be available individually for a limited time. This is the first time that several of these U.S. albums have ever been released on CD.

In related news, the Recording Academy and CBS will air The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute to the Beatles on February 9 at 8 p.m. EST. This show, which will feature a variety of stars performing Beatles covers, comes exactly 50 years after the Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
